Living Yoga Training

Experience the yogic lifestyle in the peaceful environment of Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville

The Living Yoga Training (LYT) program offers you the opportunity to experience the yogic lifestyle for a month in the peaceful environment of Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville. The program provides an immersion into the yogic lifestyle and the study of Integral Yoga. During your stay, you will have the opportunity to develop a steady Yoga practice that can be integrated into your daily life. If you are committed to your spiritual growth and are 21 years of age or older, this program can be a life-transforming experience, translating the timeless wisdom of Yoga into practical, everyday reality. Under the guidance of senior disciples of Swami Satchidananda, the LYT program combines spiritual studies and practices with selfless service.

The Living Yoga Training (LYT) program* is for responsible individuals who are dedicated to the spiritual path, can perform physical work, are positive thinking, and self-disciplined; it is not for individuals who are without a home and need a place to stay.

*If you have previously completed the LYT program, you’re welcome to apply to Kitchen/ Farm/ General Ashram Yogi Programs, or Support Staff.

The LYT program is not an Integral Yoga 200-hour teacher-training program, although you can get 16 contact hours with Yoga Alliance (YA). Simply input the contact hours using your YA login information.

Integral Yoga Teachers Association (IYTA) can provide you a CE certificate with your program’s total contact hours for a $10 fee (free for IYTA members.) For more information, email [email protected]

Sadhana or Practices

The LYT Program offers a full immersion into the yogic lifestyle through study and practice of the essential Yoga approaches—Karma Yoga (selfless service); Bhakti Yoga (devotion); Hatha Yoga (asana and pranayama); Raja Yoga (concentration and meditation); Jnana Yoga (self-analysis)—and are expected to fulfill the following requirements:

  • 5 Group Hatha Yoga Classes per week (6:20 am or 5 pm)
  • 10 Group Meditation sessions per week (five sessions at 5 am, five sessions at 12 pm or 6 pm)
  • 21 hours/week of Karma Yoga (including kitchen, farm, housekeeping, and more)
  • Satsang (sacred gathering)
  • 3 Spiritual Study Classes (Bhagavad Gita, Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, etc.)

This LYT Program has been a wonderful, life-changing experience. I feel that my connection with my inner peace and joy has deepened and that I have developed skills that I can carry with me into the world and use in my daily life. Turi H.

My experiences have made me question what an easeful, peaceful, and useful life requires me to do. I now have a flavor of what living like a Yogi entails. I feel I have begun to feel the benefits of this place that does all it can to help me ‘live the way.’ Reducing distractions, being in good company, following a routine of practice with established guidance has been key to my learning. —Andrew S.
