  • Living Yoga Trainee Agreement

  • Accommodations
    LYTs live in shared dorm rooms.
    Only the residents of the dorm floor and Living Yoga Programs staff are allowed on the floor. If you’d like to change a room, please get approval from Living Yoga Programs (Ext 152 or 178) first.
    You are required to:
    - Keep your living space clean and tidy.
    - Sign up each week for Karma Yoga tasks (on clipboard in the dormitory bathroom) and complete them.
    - Launder your bedding/towels during your stay.
    - Observe silence between 10 pm and 8 am.
    - Turn off lights and go to bed no later than 10 pm.
    Do not:
    - Bring food in the dorm.
    - Burn matches, candles, oil lamps, and incense.
  • Diet
    The yogic vegetarian diet prepares the mind and body for meditation. It is free from meat, poultry, fish, and eggs. LYTs are required to observe this diet on and off the Ashram property.
  • Calm and Clear Mind
    Please refrain from making coffee on or off grounds throughout the program. Coffee is only available at the Mandala Cafe. Coffee alternatives are available at Sivananda Hall Dining Hall.

    Please abstain from alcohol, tobacco, and unprescribed mind-altering substances on and off grounds. If a LYT is suspected of using mind-altering substances, the administration reserves the right to intervene as it deems appropriate.
  • Right Action, Right Speech
    Please refrain from proselytizing, promoting or selling any product, service or idea on or off grounds throughout the program.
  • Dress
    Please wear clean, modest, and non-revealing clothing. Dress guidelines are available online click here.
  • Devices
    Please limit the use of computers, cell phones, etc to the LYT Lounge, MPR, and Mandala Cafe (except phone calls).

    Phone calls should be made inside phone booths or in the parking lots (away from the buildings), unless there is an emergency.

    Cell phones and other electronic devices are permitted to be used in the dorms as alarm clocks.
  • Relationships(Brahmacharya)
    Yogaville is a community devoted to spiritual disciplines. In order to remain focused on the practices, please don't get involved in intimate/romantic relationships, refrain from public displays of affection, and abstain from sexual activity.
  • Wellness
    If you become ill and unable to serve please inform LYT Office and Day Manager as soon as possible. In the case of an illness for more than 3 days, We may request you to return home and recover before re-joining the Program.
  • Sadhana (practice) and Karma Yoga (service) Weekly Requirements:
    - 10-21 Group Meditations - five 5 am sessions and five 12 pm or 6 pm sessions
    - 5-14 Group Integral Hatha Classes
    - 3 Yoga philosophy classes
    - LYT Meeting/Sharing
    - Saturday 7:30 pm Satsang: Kirtan through Arathi
    - 21 Hours per week of Karma Yoga

    - Please be punctual and ready for service at the beginning of a shift. If unforeseen circumstances arise and you’re unable to make it to a shift or find a replacement, please inform the LYT Office at ext.152 and the Day Manager at ext.133.
    - Please speak with LYT Office for any scheduling requests.


  • Departure
    - Return used bedding and towels to Housekeeping (laundry bin marked ‘Departing LYTs’ in the corner by the stairs).
    - Place the fresh, clean bedding as follows: fitted bottom sheet over the mattress, and stack at the foot of the bed the comforter, blanket, top sheets and towels.
    - Clean the room so that it is ready for the next resident: dust, vacuum, etc.
