The Yogaville Community Association, or YCA, was founded to support the growth and development of the Yogaville community both in and around Sri Swami Satchidananda’s Integral Yoga Ashram and international headquarters. The YCA aims to benefit all spiritual seekers who wish to participate in building the dream outlined by Sri Gurudev in the booklet “Heaven on Earth–My Vision of Yogaville” (Integral Yoga Publications 2004). The organization was officially incorporated in May 2007 as a non-profit organization and achieved its tax-exempt status shortly afterward.
The YCA is governed by a Village Council consisting of elected officers and district representatives. Much like townships which have a “ward” set-up of governance by districts, the early YCA organizers decided to divide the Yogaville area into districts based on geography and to have the sangha members in each district elect a representative to Council, not only to broaden the input of various points of view, but also to give residents early familiarity with the idea of a town council with various areas being represented by elected officials and a “town manager” (which YCA calls the Council Administrator.”) This prepares the sangha for the fact that Yogaville has been designated as a “growth area” by Buckingham County Board of Supervisors with the expectation that there will eventually be an actual town here as well as the current designation of Yogaville as a geographical destination.
