Restorative Yoga: Relax and Rejuvenate

with Satya Greenstone, E-RYT 500, C-IAYT

Restorative Yoga is an effective antidote to stress, tension and anxiety. During this practice, the body is placed in gentle, supported asanas or poses. These poses literally hold and support the physical body, while the mental body lets go of stress, worry and tension.

Since the poses are supported by props, they can be held longer with no effort. In this state of deep relaxation, the innate intelligence of the body returns and reintegrates the entire system to its natural state of balance and ease. When the body is easeful and the mind becomes calm, one can experience the Peace within.

Restorative Yoga uses props such as bolsters, blankets, and pillows, whatever is effective to support the practitioner in the various postures. The supported poses enable one to receive the benefit of the asana without exerting muscular effort. A simple, restorative pose can be very effective when one is feeling fatigued or stressed in daily life.

The supported poses are also beneficial during times of major life changes and events or when recovering from an illness or injury. The practice of Restorative yoga takes the awareness deep within creating a meditative state where rejuvenation and healing are enhanced.

In this workshop you will experience:

  • Balanced sequences of Restorative Yoga Poses
  • Restorative Poses for stress management, relaxation and rejuvenation
  • Supported Poses which enhance the breath capacity
  • Simple Restorative Poses for everyday practice
  • Other healing aspects of Restorative Yoga
  • All props will be supplied for your use during the workshop. This program is open to students of all levels and styles of Yoga practice, and anyone totally new to yoga practices. Individual assistance and guidance will be offered to all participants.

Satya Greenstone has been a student of Sri Swami Satchidananda since 1971. She has shared the teachings of Integral Yoga® in many diverse settings with students of all ages and backgrounds and combines a natural, practical, down-to-earth approach to Yoga with a gentle humor. Since 1999 she has been a primary teacher for the 200-hour and the Intermediate Yoga Teacher Training programs. While serving as teacher training coordinator, she helped to develop and teach the first Gentle Yoga Teacher Training program. She has also developed and teaches training programs in Restorative Yoga, Adaptive Yoga, and Yoga and Meditation for Children.…
