The MYER team is comprised of volunteer EMTs and support staff. Their service maximizes the quality of emergency medical care in a 65 square mile section of west central Buckingham County. MYER began first response calls in 2005, working closely with the Buckingham County Volunteer Rescue Squad. We provide rapid, complete response for sudden illness, traumatic injury, and behavioral crisis, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. MYER serves as a non-transport agency and shortens the time between the receipt of a 911 call and the start of emergency care. The team is fully trained and equipped to evaluate the scene, stabilize the patients, and initiate care. They coordinate additional resources when needed, until transport teams arrive. Transport may include air evacuation from the helicopter landing zone located in the Manteo–Yogaville community.
MYER, in partnership with the Toga Volunteer Fire Department (1779 Mount Rush Hwy, Dillwyn, VA. 23936), has established a satellite fire station in the Manteo–Yogaville area. Initial apparatus includes a tanker acquired by MYER and an engine supplied by the Toga Fire Department. The station is now manned by Toga’s trained fire fighters and provides quick response to West Central Buckingham County. The resources of the new satellite are also available to the county at large as support in countywide emergencies. Fire fighters do more than volunteer to control fires. They provide hazardous material containment and aide state workers in keeping roads open during bad weather. They also provide traffic control and extrication expertise at auto collisions. In addition, they assist EMS during medical emergencies. Emergency Response Buckingham County Branch Toga Volunteer Fire Department.
