SUMMARY:Yom Kippur
DESCRIPTION:Yom Kippur\, known as the Day of Atonement\, is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. It marks the culmination of the Ten Days of Repentance\, which begin with Rosh Hashanah\, the Jewish New Year. Observed with fasting\, prayer\, and introspection\, Yom Kippur is a time for individuals to seek forgiveness from God and from others for their sins over the past year. The day involves extended synagogue services\, with readings from the Torah and the recitation of the Vidui\, or confessional prayers. Yom Kippur ends with a final blast of the shofar (a ram’s horn) to signal the close of the fast and the hope for a fresh start.
