Yoga is now mainstream. People of all ages, in all walks of life, are taking classes in studios, universities, businesses, government offices and gyms. Once people experience the benefits of Yoga, they usually want to go deeper in their practice. Hatha Yoga is only the beginning, a doorway to the peace and joy that Yoga has to offer.
Our Meditation Teacher Training program will enable you to go deeper in your own practice and guide your students to go deeper in theirs. You will receive instruction in the theory and techniques of meditation, including mantra, visualization, breath awareness, witnessing, and prayer. You will also learn classic yogic breathing techniques and how to refine and develop them. You will learn different ways to incorporate meditation into Hatha Yoga classes. After completing the training, you will have the knowledge, skill and confidence to teach a six-week meditation course.
This course trains you to teach a 6 week meditation course, which will provide your students with the information, experience, and motivation that a new meditator needs in order to begin and develop a regular meditation practice. Your curriculum includes instruction and training in the following:
- Theory of meditation.
- The principal techniques of meditation, including mantra, witnessing, and visualization.
- Overcoming oblstacles to meditation practice.
- Answering questions about Yoga and meditation.
- Maintaining a spiritual diary.
- Developing a personal practice routine and a long-term practice plan.
- Deepening and refining your oun practice.
- Integrating your meditation practice into daily life.
- A syllabus for a 6-week meditation course.
The course is available to certified Yoga instructors of all traditions who have had a daily meditation practice for at least six months.
At the end of the course, graduates receive a diploma certifying them to teach Integral Yoga Meditation. This course may receive 1049 Yoga Alliance registered credits.
Rev. Lakshmi Barsel, Ph.D., has taught Integral Yoga to people of all ages and walks of life for over thirty years. Besides teaching classes in Gentle Yoga, Hatha Yoga I & II, meditation and pranayama, and serving as spiritual director for silent retreats, Lakshmi teaches specialized teacher trainings, such as Raja Yoga and Meditation teacher trainings, and on-going scripture classes on the Bhagavad Gita and the Thirukkural. She has a Ph.D. in Linguistic Anthropology and presently serves as the Yogaville Director of Program Development and Advertising.
Swami Priyaananda is a senior disciple of Swami Satchidananda with 30 years of experience in the practice of Integral Yoga. She began her studies at the IYI NY in the early 70’s and later moved to California serving in the LA, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco IYI’s. In the 80’s she moved to the Connecticut Ashram where she served with Dr. Amrita McLanahan at IY Health Services and later managed the Distribution Division. When the Ashram moved to Buckingham, she moved to Northern Virginia where she served as the Executive Secretary of the IYI for several years. She now currently serves as Coordinator of the Living Yoga Training (LYT) program.
