About the Presenters
Dr. Amrita McLanahan is a nationally recognized authority on preventive medicine. As a Director of Stress Management Training at the Preventative Medicine Research Institute for the past twenty years, she worked with Dr. Dean Ornish to document prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease and cancer. She is the author of Surgery and Its Alternatives and medical consultant for Dr. Yoga.
Sumati Steinberg, RN, is a gifted Spiritual Life Coach, senior disciple of H.H. Sri Swami Satchidananda and an Interfaith Minister who grew up in Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville, Virginia. Born with an intense spiritual desire to realize her true nature, she began joining her father in meditation before the age of two. In 1979, by the grace of her Guru, she received mantra initiation thus beginning her earnest daily spiritual practice. She and her three children were blessed to attend the school in Yogaville, where they were taught to love and feel compassion for all beings.
By maintaining a healthy balance of worldly and spiritual life, Sumati obtained a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from UNC-W and has served in the medical field for over 20 years. She currently heads the comprehensive wellness program at Kyanite Mining Corporation in Dillwyn, Virginia.
As a Raja Yoga teacher, meditation instructor, nurse wellness coach, and lively public speaker, she loves bringing the joy of Yoga into all aspects of her life. As a humanitarian, Sumati serves on several boards to help promote wellness, prevent illness, and to promote peace. She serves her local community by responding to physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual emergencies as needed. She embraces each moment fully and enjoys sharing her wisdom to help others live their lives to the fullest. Sumati, her beloved husband, children, and grandchildren continue to call Yogaville their home.
