Raja Yoga is a comprehensive system for purifying, strengthening and harmonizing all aspects of the individual – physical, mental, social and spiritual. It is the science of self-mastery and a guidebook to higher consciousness. It presents both the philosophy and the psychology of Yoga in a practical and systematic manner providing a unique opportunity to study in depth and to learn how to apply these great teachings in your life. You will also be trained in public speaking and teaching skills so that you can effectively share these concepts and practices with others. If you have any questions regarding the recommended prerequisites, please do not hesitate to call.
WHY A RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM?
The most effective teaching comes from direct experience. Our residential programs are designed to offer you the experience of living the teachings of Yoga and give you the tools you will need to pass these great teachings on to others. During your stay, you will immerse yourself in the yogic lifestyle and transform your body, mind and spirit. Our residential programs offer a supportive and nurturing environment for practice and study away from the distractions of everyday life.
The daily schedule is very full; it is designed to help you fully realize the benefits of the Yoga practices and to offer you the optimum environment in which to study and learn. Each day begins with meditation at 6 a.m., followed by a Hatha Yoga class. During the day, you will have training courses, workshops, practice sessions, a noon meditation at the beautiful LOTUS Temple and some free time. This schedule covers six days and five nights a week. You are expected to stay at the Ashram for the entire time to successfully complete the program.
The curriculum includes the following:
- In-depth review of the Yoga Sutras, especially Books I and II
- Guidance in the use of analogies, stories and other scriptures to illustrate the teachings
- Instruction in how to incorporate these teachings into daily life
- Training in public speaking
- Training in answering questions, leading discussions and developing group rapport
- A syllabus for teaching a six-week Raja Yoga course
Potential students should have taken the Integral Yoga Basic Hatha Yoga Teacher Training. We also welcome certified teachers from other traditions who have already taken an introductory Raja Yoga course. Participants will be asked to review the Yoga Sutras prior to coming for the training. Please re-read Books 1 & 2, focusing on Sutras 1.1 – 1.16; 1.33; 2.28 – 2.55; and Book 3, Sutras 3.1 – 3.3.
We recommend that all students not trained through Integral Yoga familiarize themselves with the Integral Yoga method of teaching Hatha Yoga by taking classes at an Integral Yoga Institute or from an IY teacher. Information on Integral Yoga teachers in your area can be obtained from the online Teachers Directory at www.iyta.org or by contacting the Integral Yoga Teachers Association at 434-969-3121, ext. 177. If this is not possible, you may purchase the videos Yoga With a Master and the Integral Yoga Hatha I audiotape from IY Distribution at 1-800-262-1008 (outside US, call 1-434-969-1049).
At the end of the course, graduates receive a diploma certifying them to teach Raja Yoga.
Integral Yoga may award 149 credit hours toward Yoga Alliance registration with the completion of this course.
