Healthy Lifestyle Retreat 2012 at YogavilleAmrita (Sandra) McLanahan, M.D. is a nationally recognized authority on preventive medicine, nutrition, stress reduction, and primary family health care.

For 20 years she served as Director of Stress Management for Dr. Dean Ornish’s research which uses yoga and lifestyle changes to reverse heart disease and cancer. She worked with Dr. Dean Ornish to document the benefits of dietary change and stress management to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease and cancer. She currently practices Integrative Medicine here in Yogaville.

Dr. McLanahan has made multiple study trips to India and Asia, where she visited centers that use yoga and other natural therapies to prevent and treat disease.  She is the co-author of two books, Surgery and Its Alternatives, and Dr. Yoga.  She also appears in 2 DVD’s Health, Yoga & Anatomy, and Living Yoga.

Healthy Lifestyle Retreat 2012 at Yogaville 2 Sumati Steinberg’s family began a yogic way of life before she was a year old.  They embraced Integral Yoga in 1973 and she took mantra initiation in 1978.  Therefore, she grew up at the feet of the Guru and has been practicing for over 35 years.

Sumati served as Dr. Amrita McLanahan’s Personal Assistant for 8 years prior to obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from UNC-Wilmington (Magna Cum Laude with Honors), after having entered college at 15 years old.

She is a certified Hatha Yoga teacher, and has worked as an RN in Adult and Neonatal ICUs, home health, private duty, and currently works as a Nurse Wellness Coach for Kyanite Mining Corporation in Dillwyn, Virginia.  Sumati publishes a bi-monthly wellness newsletter, teaches weekly wellness classes, and offers individual wellness coaching.

Sumati serves her greater community as a member on the Central Virginia Community Health Services Advisory Board.
