SATSANG

Satsang is a Sanskrit word meaning "the company of spiritual seekers."

The following is an introduction to the Saturday evening Satsang at Yogaville:

  • The evening begins at 7:30 pm with "Kirtan," which is the chanting of prayers and mantrams to uplift the heart and mind.

  • Next, there is a speaker and sometimes a musical offering.

  • Then a video is shown of the founder of Yogaville, Sri Swami Satchidananda, speaking at a former Satsang.

  • The evening concludes at approximately 9:30 pmwith a ceremony, called an "arathi," honoring the light of all faiths. Closing prayers are also offered.

  • Afterwards, there is distribution of "prasad," a blessed offering. Prasad may be given in the form of holy ash (which customarily is put on the forehead), and blessed food, usually a sweet.

  • After Satsang there is time to meet Yogaville residents.

Video and audio tapes of Satsangs are available through Shakticom.
